Los Angeles, CA, USA,Thu Jun 11 2026
Sony Pictures has released a teaser for the upcoming film “The Social Reckoning, ” which promises to revisit Facebook’s controversial history from a fresh angle. The movie centers on Frances Haugen, a former engineer who exposed hidden data to the public in 2021. She is portrayed by Mikey Madison, while Jeremy Allen White plays journalist Jeff Horwitz, the reporter who helps her bring the story to light. The trailer shows their tense meetings and highlights a scene where Mark Zuckerberg, played by Jeremy Strong, rehearses his testimony before Congress.
The film is a companion to the 2010 biopic “The Social Network, ” but it shifts focus from the company’s early days to its recent struggles with privacy and transparency. Aaron Sorkin, who originally wrote “The Social Network, ” now writes and directs this new piece. He is known for sharp dialogue and political commentary, suggesting the movie will not shy away from criticism.
Supporting roles include Bill Burr, Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, and Billy Magnussen, adding depth to the narrative. “The Social Reckoning” is set for a theatrical release on October 9, giving audiences an opportunity to examine the power dynamics of social media platforms. The film aims to spark discussion about corporate responsibility and whistleblowing in the digital age.
