Faith and Politics: A Shaky Alliance

In 2025, President Trump has been very busy. He has signed 225 executive orders in just one year. This is more than he did in his entire first term. Some of these orders are about religion. They talk about making America a more Christian nation.
For example, one order created a task force to stop Christian bias in government. Another made a new office to protect religious freedom. Trump also made a commission to bring religion back to America. He says he was saved by God to make America great again. His vice president, JD Vance, also talks a lot about Christianity. He says America will always be a Christian nation.
But not everyone agrees with this. The Catholic Church, for example, is not happy. Pope Leo XIV is upset about how the government is treating immigrants. He says they should be treated with respect. The U. S. Conference of Catholic Bishops also spoke out against the government's policies. They said mass deportations are wrong.
The Episcopal Church is also upset. They ended their partnership with the government because they don't agree with how immigrants are being treated. They say the government is being unfair and cruel.
But what about evangelical churches? They are usually very supportive of the Republican Party. But now, they are not sure what to do. Some are afraid to speak out against the government's policies. Others are helping the government with its crackdown on immigrants. And some are just avoiding the topic altogether.
This is a big problem for the MAGA coalition. They are supposed to be united, but they are not. They don't know how to deal with this issue. It's a big crack in their alliance.
