Central Pennsylvania is in for a mix of weather this week. The start of the week will be pretty typical for fall. Expect partly sunny skies today with temperatures hovering in the mid-50s to low 60s. The region is currently sandwiched between two weather systems, one near the Great Lakes and another in the southern Appalachians. This setup will keep skies mostly clear to partly cloudy tonight, with overnight lows between 30 and 40 degrees.
Light winds and dry conditions will stick around until Monday morning. A cold front will sweep through the area on Monday, bringing breezy conditions that will last into Tuesday. Wind gusts of 20 to 30 mph are expected in the northwestern half of central Pennsylvania. There might be a few showers in the northern tier downwind of Lake Erie on Monday afternoon.
Temperatures will stay seasonal but will dip slightly on Tuesday, with highs in the lower 50s to near 60 degrees. The weather pattern will shift on Wednesday as a series of fast-moving systems bring multiple rounds of rain. The first significant chance for showers arrives Wednesday evening and lasts through Thursday afternoon.
More rain is expected between Friday evening and Sunday, with each system bringing breezy to windy conditions. For higher elevations in the northwest mountains, there's a slight chance of mixed rain and snow showers on Wednesday night. The likelihood of snow showers increases on Saturday night into Sunday. Travelers in these areas should keep an eye on the forecasts as the weekend approaches.
The overall weather pattern for the week features a low-amplitude zonal flow across the country. This allows weather systems to move quickly from west to east, bringing periodic precipitation and gusty winds to the region. A wind advisory is in effect for Friday with gusts up to 45 mph across central Pennsylvania. The current wind advisory for North Central Pennsylvania will expire at midnight.
