The FBI seized ballots and voter records in a Fulton County warehouse near Atlanta after a request from a lawyer who once worked with former President Donald Trump.
The lawyer, named Kurt Olsen, was appointed by the president to lead an investigation into the 2020 election.
He had previously spread unfounded claims that the election was stolen, a stance that courts found to be false.
An FBI agent said in court papers that the raid started because of Olsen’s referral.
The agent wrote that agents were allowed to take physical ballots, machine tapes and voter lists from the county.
The order also let officials look at any electronic evidence in the room.
A federal judge who was nominated by Trump ordered the documents to be made public.
The judge’s notes show that most of Olsen’s arguments echoed the same unproven fraud claims made by Trump in 2020.
Those claims were repeatedly denied by state and local officials, including Georgia’s own Secretary of State.
Some officials questioned why the director of national intelligence was present at the raid.
The intelligence chief said she was there to fulfill her legal duties, but critics argue she should not have been involved in domestic law‑enforcement actions.
The raid also led to a lawsuit by a county commissioner who argued that the FBI took too many ballots and records.
Georgia was a key state in the 2020 election, one where Trump lost by a small margin.
He tried to challenge the results there through lawsuits and public pressure, but all attempts were dismissed by judges.
The recent raid shows how the fight over that election continues in unexpected ways.
