In a surprising turn of events, the head of Fenerbahce, a top Turkish sports club, was questioned as part of a drug investigation. Sadettin Saran, who has both Turkish and U. S. citizenship, was called in to give his side of the story. He cooperated by providing samples for testing.
This investigation is quite big. It has already led to the detention of over a dozen people since December. Those caught up in it include TV personalities, journalists, singers, actors, and social media influencers. They are facing serious charges like drug trafficking and even prostitution.
Saran, who was elected as Fenerbahce's chair in September, was specifically questioned about his role in providing and facilitating the use of narcotics. After giving his statement and medical samples, he was released under certain conditions.
Fenerbahce is no stranger to controversies. In 2012, the club's former president, Aziz Yildirim, spent over a year in jail on match-fixing charges. He was later acquitted when it was revealed that the case was influenced by corruption.
The club is also involved in another investigation related to match-fixing in Turkish soccer. It seems like Fenerbahce can't catch a break.
