You might remember Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt from their reality TV days. Now, they're making headlines again, but this time it's not about their TV drama. They, along with other residents, have sued the city of Los Angeles. Their Pacific Palisades home was one of the many destroyed in the wildfires that have swept through Southern California. The lawsuit points out that the city's water issues during the fires made it harder for firefighters to do their jobs. The fires, fueled by strong winds and a very dry year, have been one of the worst California has seen. Over 12, 000 structures were destroyed, and sadly, 28 lives were lost. The problem was that key hydrants ran dry, and water pressure was low. This led to a bunch of lawsuits against the city and its water department.
Here's where it gets more serious: The Santa Ynez Reservoir, which supplies water to the Pacific Palisades, was out of commission for over a year. Instead, there were three tanks holding a total of 3. 7 million liters of water. But these aren't meant for big fires like this one. The tanks were empty in just 12 hours, leaving firefighters with hardly any water. The city and water department haven't responded to questions about this yet. The lawsuit says that the reservoir repairs, which were needed since January, wouldn't be done until next year. They blame the water system failure for their losses. It's like when a company's equipment causes a fire, they have to pay for the damages. That's the principle they're using here.
