Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., USAFri May 08 2026
A young man from Boyceville High School in Wisconsin has just become the state’s first recipient of a $10, 000 scholarship awarded by the Science Olympiad USA Foundation. The award is given to students who show strong academic performance, active community service, and a deep commitment to the Science Olympiad program.
The student’s name is William Engel, and he has already made a noticeable impact in his local area. He organized “STEM Family Fun Nights, ” where kids could explore science projects together, and he also set up a blood drive for the American Red Cross. These efforts demonstrate his leadership skills and willingness to give back.
William plans to study Packaging Engineering and Sustainability at the University of Wisconsin‑Stout this fall. His future studies will build on his passion for science and help him develop solutions that protect the environment while improving everyday products.
The Science Olympiad USA Foundation has awarded a total of $390, 000 in Founders’ Scholarships to students across the United States since 2019. The organization also offers millions of dollars in tuition help, prizes and awards that have been given out since the competition began in 1984.
Founded in 2020, the Foundation honors the original creators of the national Science Olympiad—Dr. Gerard and Sharon Putz and Jack Cairns—and continues their mission to inspire young people in science, technology, engineering and math.
This scholarship highlights how dedication to learning and community service can open doors for bright students from all corners of the country.
