Five individuals have been charged by the U. S. government for a multi-year hacking spree that targeted major tech companies and cryptocurrency owners. Ahmed Hossam Eldin Elbadawy (23), Noah Michael Urban (20), Evans Onyeaka Osiebo (20), Joel Martin Evans (25), and Tyler Robert Buchanan (22) are accused of using phishing and SIM swapping to steal credentials and sneak into these firms. Their targets included companies in entertainment, virtual currency, cloud communication, and telecommunication services.
The hackers are believed to have stolen a whopping $6. 3 million in cryptocurrency from one victim. The Justice Department called this a "sophisticated scheme" to steal valuable information worth millions. Security experts previously linked the hackers to the group 0ktapus, known for spoofing Okta login portals. Later, they were also tied to the group Scattered Spider, which targets large companies and their suppliers.
