The sports scene in Flint was buzzing on January 19th, with teams facing off in various high school competitions. The weather might have been chilly, but the action on the courts and fields was anything but cold.
In boys' basketball, Clio made a strong comeback against Bay City Western. Harper Wozniak was a standout player, scoring 22 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Mason Taylor also contributed with 11 points, five rebounds, and five steals. Despite an early deficit, Clio's freshmen players stepped up to secure the win, bringing their season record to 5-7.
Dryden also had a notable victory, defeating Sterling Heights Parkway Christian with a final score of 66-41. Gianni Coscione and Luke Taylor led the way, scoring 19 and 23 points respectively. This win improved Dryden's season record to 6-6.
In girls' basketball, Corunna continued their winning streak, defeating Flint Carman-Ainsworth 55-33. Lizzie Dettman led the team with 17 points, while Audrey Miller and Gracie TerMeer also contributed with double-digit scores. Corunna's record now stands at 8-3, while Carman-Ainsworth is 6-6.
Marysville pulled away from Imlay City in the fourth quarter, outscoring them 18-5 to win 58-33. Alexis Bruyere led Imlay City with 24 points, but it wasn't enough to secure the victory. Imlay City's record is now 7-4.
New Lothrop dominated Morrice with an 80-3 victory. Katelyn Wendling was a standout player, scoring 26 points and shooting 11-for-11 from the field. New Lothrop's record is now a perfect 9-0.
In bowling, Imlay City had a strong performance in both boys' and girls' matches. Keigan Scott rolled a 225 game and 408 series in the boys' match against Richmond, while Faith Schriber rolled a 222 and 213 in the girls' match. Imlay City won both matches convincingly.
On the ice, Riverview Cabrini Pirates edged out Grand Blanc in a close hockey game. After Grand Blanc took an early lead, Cabrini responded with two goals to take the lead. Trevor Blair tied the game in the third period, but Cabrini ultimately scored the game-winning goal. Dominic Viviano made 43 saves for Grand Blanc, but it wasn't enough to secure the win.
