France Says No Quick Fix for Middle East Conflict
Israel, Tel AvivFri Mar 20 2026
The French foreign minister says the war in the Middle East is unlikely to end soon, but France will keep pushing for a lasting peace.
He told reporters in Tel Aviv that the situation, which has been growing since early October, shows no clear short‑term solution.
Barrot added that this uncertainty should not be used as a reason to stop trying to help the region.
After meeting Israeli official Gideon Saar, he highlighted France’s concerns about a potential ground invasion by Israel into southern Lebanon.
During his visit to Lebanon, Barrot emphasized that the Lebanese army must do everything it can to remove Iranian‑backed Hezbollah forces, as the Lebanese government has demanded.
France’s stance is part of a broader effort by Western allies to encourage dialogue and reduce tensions in the area.
The minister’s comments reflect a cautious approach, urging continued diplomatic work while acknowledging the complex realities on the ground.
He stresses that any progress must involve all parties, especially those directly involved in the conflict.
