Gainesville and Alachua County are buzzing with activities this February. Music lovers can enjoy a variety of performances. Wim Tapley and the Cannons will bring their Americana and neo-soul blend to Heartwood Soundstage on February 13. The next day, Vincent Neil Emerson will perform his folk and country hits outdoors at the same venue. On February 15, Jasper Smitty and Corey Hall will showcase their blues talents. Matthew Logan Vasquez, known for his work with Delta Spirit, will take the stage on February 18. Caroline Jones, a member of Zac Brown Band, will perform on February 19. Theater enthusiasts have plenty to look forward to as well. The Hippodrome Theatre is presenting "Some Enchanted Evening, " a collection of Rodgers and Hammerstein's greatest hits, through February 15. High Springs Playhouse is staging "Happily Ever After: A Wedding Comedy, " a farce about a bride who doubts her choice of groom, through March 1.
For those interested in history and culture, the Matheson History Museum is hosting several events. On February 14, Dr. Kevin Winstead will discuss the contributions of Black Americans in science and engineering. On February 18, Mark Enting will explore the origins of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator in Gainesville. The museum will also present lectures on politics and faith communities on March 14 and April 11, respectively. Dance and circus performances are also on the agenda. Cirque FLIP Fabrique will present "BLIZZARD, " a winter-themed acrobatic show, on February 17. Dance Alive National Ballet will perform "Romeo and Juliet" on February 21. For a more relaxed outing, visitors can feed horses at the Retirement Home for Horses every Saturday. Community Nights at South Main Station offer free live music, food, and drink specials every Wednesday. Looking ahead, the Phillips Center will host a performance of Mozart's "Gran Partita" on February 22. Sun Country Dance Theatre will present "Hansel and Gretel" on March 1. The University of Florida Center for Autism and Related Disabilities will host the Stomp the Swamp for Autism event on March 7. The Old Florida Celebration of the Arts will take place in Cedar Key on April 11-12.
