Game Boosts Quick Medical Word Learning
Tue Apr 07 2026
A recent study put a new online game to the test. The game, called MedQuiz, was designed to help health students remember medical terms faster. Sixty undergraduates from different health programs were split into two groups: one group received normal classroom lessons, while the other played MedQuiz after their lectures.
After a short test, the players of MedQuiz scored much higher than those who only studied in class. The difference was statistically significant, meaning it is unlikely to be a random chance. Moreover, the better students were also those who reported enjoying the game more.
The game’s design was rated highly on usability, scoring 90. 36% on a standard survey. Players also said the game was fun and kept them engaged, though its entertainment level was only moderate compared to pure video games. The MEEGA+ framework, which looks at educational game quality, confirmed that users found the tool easy to use and helpful for learning.
Because MedQuiz was only used for a short period, the study did not check if students remembered the terms months later. Future research should look at long‑term retention and see how the game might work with AI‑driven spaced repetition to keep knowledge fresh.
Overall, the trial shows that a well‑designed digital game can quickly boost medical vocabulary for students. It offers a scalable way to add interactive learning into regular courses, though more work is needed to prove lasting benefits.
