She was there with her senior traveling club, waiting for a ferry. Suddenly, the gangway gave way, sending dozens of people into the water. Many were using walkers and wheelchairs, which might have added too much weight. Hicks remembers seeing people struggling in the water, hearing their screams, and even a lady asking for blankets. The dock was supposed to hold a cultural festival, but it ended in tragedy.Seven elderly individuals, aged 74 to 93, lost their lives. The cause of the collapse is still under investigation. One of the victims was Carlotta McIntosh, the oldest in the club. Her granddaughter shared that she was vibrant and active. Ben Crump, a civil rights attorney, is now representing some of the families affected. He plans to uncover the truth and ensure such a tragedy doesn't happen again.
