Ghost in the Shell Gets a New Look for Summer
Tokyo, JapanSat Mar 28 2026
The studio Science Saru has finally shown what the upcoming Ghost in the Shell will look like, and it feels like a throwback to the 1990s. The short clip released at AnimeJapan is only 46 seconds long, but it gives a clear idea that the new version will lean toward the original manga’s art style while adding a bit of cartoon flair. The colors and character designs, especially the way Motoko Kusanagi’s eyes are painted red against her blue hair, hint at a nostalgic yet fresh approach.
The teaser also introduced a new key visual from artist Shuhei Handa, depicting Kusanagi standing on top of the AI tank Fuchikoma. This image suggests that the film might follow the original storyline closely, but it could also take a different path similar to how Trigun was reimagined in Stampede. Fans won’t have to wait long for more clues, as the movie is slated for release this July.
While the preview is brief, it shows that Science Saru and Production I. G are serious about bringing a modern spin to the classic series. The upcoming release should satisfy longtime fans and newcomers alike, offering both familiarity and new visual excitement.
