Google has just released a minor update for its Clock app on Android, version 7. 14. This update brings a couple of visual tweaks that might not seem like much at first glance, but they could make a difference in how users interact with the app.
First off, the update introduces new Material 3 switches throughout the app. These switches are slightly taller and narrower than before, with bolder outlines when turned off and a less prominent circular handle. This might not sound like a big deal, but it's part of Google's ongoing effort to make its apps look and feel more modern and consistent.
The update also brings a new icon style for weather conditions in the Clock tab. Instead of the traditional colored icons, everything is now gray. This might make the icons less distracting, but it also means they don't stand out as much when you're quickly skimming the list.
One thing to note is that the Timer Starter widget remains exclusive to Pixel phones and is not available on third-party Android devices. This is a shame, as it's a useful feature that could benefit all Android users.
The update is slowly rolling out via the Play Store, so not everyone will see these changes right away. But for those who do, it's a reminder that even small updates can make a big difference in the overall user experience.
