Government Faces Critique Over Antisemitism Response
London, United KingdomTue Apr 21 2026
Nigel Farage, the head of Reform UK, voiced strong criticism of the British administration on Monday. He claimed that officials are not doing enough to stop antisemitic incidents, especially after a recent arson attempt on a London synagogue. Farage said that mere statements of support are not enough; real policy changes are required.
During a press briefing and in an article for the Jewish Chronicle, he accused Prime Minister Keir Starmer of being too cautious. Farage suggested that the government’s hesitation comes from a fear of losing votes in communities that traditionally back Labour. He highlighted the large Muslim South Asian population, noting that politicians may worry about alienating these voters.
The leader also mentioned concerns within the Labour Party. Reports indicate that some MPs are uneasy about potential shifts in voter behaviour, particularly in areas with significant Muslim residents. One MP warned that independent candidates focusing on Gaza could siphon support from Labour, adding to the party’s unease.
Farage warned that without stronger action, Jewish communities across Europe could face increasing pressure. He cited similar patterns he has seen in Brussels and expressed alarm that Britain is not adequately protecting its Jewish citizens. He described the situation as a national disgrace and said that Jews are in real, physical danger.
His comments come amid broader political tensions where foreign policy and domestic security issues overlap with election strategies. The government’s response to antisemitism is now under greater scrutiny, and critics argue that political calculations may be hindering effective measures.
