A 49-year-old man from Nevada found himself in trouble when security officers stopped his black SUV at a checkpoint near Donald Trump’s rally in Coachella, California. Inside his vehicle, they discovered a shotgun, a loaded handgun, and ammunition. The man was arrested on charges of possessing a loaded firearm and having a high-capacity magazine.
The incident happened on Saturday night, but it didn't affect the safety of the former president or the rally attendees. The suspect was released on a $5,000 bail and is set to appear in court on January 2, 2025.
Security measures were tight at the event. Media members and VIP ticket holders had to pass through several checkpoints where their vehicles were searched by officers and K-9 units. General ticket holders were directed to a different site and transported to the rally by bus.
Trump’s campaign team didn’t immediately comment on the arrest. The Riverside County Sheriff, Chad Bianco, planned a news conference to discuss the situation further.
This event raises questions about event security and the regulations surrounding firearm possession in public spaces. It also highlights the importance of thorough checks at high-profile events.
