Health Inspectors Spot Good and Bad in Chatham County Restaurants
Chatham County, Savannah, USAMon Apr 27 2026
The county health team kept a close eye on local eateries from April 7 to 14, checking that food stays safe for diners.
They worked through the week, sending out reports that show both spotless spots and places needing improvement.
Some establishments earned perfect scores. These include a hotel’s restaurant, a school cafeteria, a popular taco truck, and a few fast‑food chains. They all passed the health test with no issues raised.
Other venues scored high but still had a few problems. A few fast‑food chains, a Mexican grill and a sports bar each received scores in the high 90s. The inspectors noted minor infractions, such as improper storage temperatures or lack of hand‑washing stations.
A handful of restaurants received lower scores in the 80s and below. The reports highlighted serious concerns: food kept above safe temperatures, missing thermometers, broken containers, and unsanitary equipment. One school’s ice machine was clogged with slime, while a sandwich shop had no hair restraints for staff. A bar stored raw fish next to cooked meat, risking cross‑contamination.
The inspections aim to protect guests and keep food safe. They also serve as a reminder that even popular spots can slip up, and regular checks help keep standards high.
