High School Sports Star of the Week: Your Vote Counts!
Southwest Florida, Naples, USAMon Mar 16 2026
Every week, high school boys across Southwest Florida get a chance to shine. A local newspaper team picks standout athletes from the previous week, sending their names and stats to readers for a quick online poll. The winner earns a t‑shirt from a sports brand and a tote bag, both sponsored by the newspaper.
Last week’s nominees came from baseball, track, tennis, and lacrosse. In track, a runner from Aubrey Rogers won the 800‑meter race and helped his team take first in a relay. A Riverdale sprinter took gold in both the 100‑ and 400‑meter dashes. A Lehigh athlete landed a long jump victory and also won the 200‑meter sprint.
Baseball fans saw two strong performances. An Aubrey Rogers player hit a crucial RBI single that sparked a comeback win in extra innings. A Community School pitcher dominated an opponent, allowing only one hit over seven innings and striking out six.
In tennis, players from Estero and Mariner each secured wins in both singles and doubles, helping their schools secure decisive victories.
The lacrosse highlight was a player from Immokalee who netted five goals and added an assist in a big win over Ocoee.
Readers can vote by clicking the poll link at the bottom of each article’s page. The deadline for voting is 10 a. m. on Thursday, and winners are announced on social media the same day.
If you know a student who should be recognized, send their name, school, and key stats to the newspaper’s email addresses by 5 p. m. on Sunday.
