Hot Springs Gets Its First Full-Time Town Boss

Hot Springs has taken a big step by hiring its first-ever full-time town administrator, Hassena Kassim. This is a huge deal because the town has never had someone in this role before. Kassim, who is 47 and lives right in Hot Springs, started her job in August. Before this, Kassim helped the town bounce back after Tropical Storm Helene wrecked the place. The storm caused major flooding, destroying roads, bridges, and even the historic spa. The town got over $1. 3 million in state grants to help rebuild, focusing on fixing water and sewer systems and supporting local businesses. Kassim's job is all about making things run smoother. She's working on updating old town rules, keeping records safe, and helping with FEMA projects. She's also the town's finance officer, which means she's in charge of the money stuff.One of the biggest challenges she faces is getting the town's records and systems back on track after Helene washed away a lot of important documents. Kassim wants to move everything online so that future town administrators won't have to start from scratch. She's also helping with big projects like the wastewater treatment plant, which needs serious repairs or even a full replacement. The town recently got a $10 million grant to help with this. Kassim loves her job and feels lucky to work with the experienced team in Hot Springs. Outside of work, she runs a farm called May's Menagerie, where she raises goats, chickens, and grows produce.
