How AI is pushing power and tech limits in the US

BengaluruFri Jun 12 2026
The push for AI growth in America has exposed two big problems: keeping power flowing and getting the right gear fast enough. New AI data centers need so much electricity and special parts that builders can’t keep up. This slowdown threatens the big tech plans that depend on these facilities. One solution is Helix, a company just launched with $10 billion behind it. It’s a team-up between KKR, Nvidia, and Vistra. Nvidia brings deep knowledge in building AI data centers—exactly the kind of help Helix needs. Vistra steps in as the main power supplier, promising steady energy for these hungry machines.
KKR, which already manages over $100 billion in assets, sees this as a smart move. They focus on digital and power sectors, where they already handle more than $70 billion. The plan isn’t set in stone yet. More investors could join after the first group finalizes their deals. The man behind Helix’s vision used to run AWS’s biggest division. Since taking over in 2021, he tripled sales and doubled profits. But he left in May 2024, just as this new project kicks off.
