Intel Adds “Plus” Models and a New Tool for Arrow Lake CPUs

Intel has announced two updated versions of its Arrow Lake processors, called Core Ultra 5 250K Plus and Core Ultra 7 270K Plus. The new chips use the same mix of performance (P‑cores) and efficiency (E‑cores) cores as earlier Arrow Lake models, but they run at slightly lower maximum speeds. The company also released a Binary Optimization Tool that lets users tweak game and application binaries for better performance on these CPUs.
The 250K Plus has six P‑cores and twelve E‑cores, while the 270K Plus features eight P‑cores and sixteen E‑cores. Both use larger L3 caches than some earlier models, but the 270K Plus does not include the Thermal Velocity Boost feature that the higher‑end Core Ultra 9 285K offers. As a result, its peak P‑core frequency tops out at 5. 50 GHz instead of the 5. 70 GHz found in the 285K.
Users have mixed feelings about Intel’s big‑Little design. Some reviewers say that the built‑in thread director works well enough, but others report performance hiccups in certain games and applications. Those issues can sometimes be fixed with third‑party tools that lock tasks to specific core types.
The new Binary Optimization Tool is intended to reduce the performance loss caused by software layers between the CPU and the end program. By adjusting how binaries use the cores, it can squeeze out extra speed without needing to change hardware.
Intel’s move comes as the company tries to improve the gaming and compute performance of its latest desktop CPUs while keeping prices competitive. Early adopters have noted that the original Arrow Lake launch had mixed reviews, especially for gaming at high resolutions. The refreshed models aim to address those concerns and offer a better balance between power and price.
