Iowa Picks Trump Again: What Happened?

Believe it or not, former President Donald Trump just won Iowa for the third time in a row. This is big news because Iowa used to be a swing state, meaning it could go either way in elections. But Trump's popularity among Republican voters has changed that. In 2008 and 2012, most Iowans voted for Democrat Barack Obama. Then, in 2016 and 2020, they chose Trump. This year, Trump easily got the support of Iowa's Republican caucusgoers and won the state again.
Let's talk numbers. At 9:55 p. m. , about 69% of Iowa's votes were counted. Trump got 56%, while his opponent, Harris, got 43%. This might sound like a close race, but it's actually a decisive win for Trump.
Before the election, a poll by the Des Moines Register and Mediacom showed Harris leading Trump by 47% to 44%. But this poll wasn't 100% accurate. Other national polls still had Trump leading by a bigger margin.
This isn't the first time the Iowa Poll hasn't predicted the winner correctly. Before 2008, it was usually right. But in 2016 and 2020, Trump won Iowa even though the polls said he might lose. In 2016, he beat Hillary Clinton by 9. 4 percentage points. In 2020, he beat Joe Biden by 8. 2 percentage points.
So, what does all this mean? It shows that polls aren't always right. They can give us an idea of what might happen, but they don't always predict the actual result.
