Jail death linked to methamphetamine: what autopsy results show
Pine Bluff, Arkansas, USASun May 03 2026
A man who entered the Jefferson County jail in February died just three days later, with toxicology reports later confirming methamphetamine as the reason. The 31-year-old had been taken into custody on February 16 following an arrest, but his health rapidly declined in the days that followed.
Staff at the jail noticed he wasn’t doing well early on February 19. They immediately started CPR and used a defibrillator, while also contacting emergency responders. Even after trained medical personnel arrived and continued advanced treatment, he was declared dead at the facility.
Investigators looked for signs of violence or suspicious circumstances but found none. His body was then sent for a full autopsy to determine the exact cause. Weeks later, lab results came back identifying methamphetamine toxicity as the cause of death—classified as accidental.
