James Island Teacher Seeks Help to Study Sea Level Rise with Students

Eve Kendrick, a dedicated science teacher at James Island Charter High School, is on a mission to get her students involved in real-world research. She wants to study how sea level rise is affecting local freshwater environments. Her project, called "Too Salty! Sea Level Rise & Freshwater Environments," is aimed at getting students excited about environmental science. Kendrick plans to buy nets, waders, and other equipment needed to collect and analyze data. She will partner with the Adopt-a-Stream organization to ensure the data collected by students is used by scientists. This hands-on experience will give students a personal connection to their environment and encourage them to be lifelong learners and environmental stewards.In addition to her sea level rise project, Kendrick has another project called "Interactive Biology and Data Analysis. " This project will use basic resources like calculators and clipboards to make biology concepts more engaging. Students will document their problem-solving and analyses in a notebook.
