Harry Kane has become the first English player to score 500 goals in professional matches, a landmark he achieved with two goals against Werder Bremen. He already tops the list of English scorers, surpassing Jimmy Greaves’ 474‑goal record in December. In just the first half of the season, he has netted 26 times in 22 Bundesliga games.
His scoring journey began fifteen years ago when he scored his first professional goal for Leyton Orient at 17. Since then, Kane has tallied five goals for Leyton Orient, two for Leicester, nine for Millwall, 280 for Tottenham and 126 so far for Bayern Munich. He also leads England with 78 international goals, a tally that includes 213 in the Premier League and 89 in the Bundesliga.
In European competitions, Kane is the top scorer among Englishmen with 48 goals in the Champions League, 18 more than Wayne Rooney. He has scored in every competition he’s played in, and his record as the highest‑scoring Englishman lasted six decades until he overtook Greaves.
The Premier League sees him as the second‑highest scorer, behind Alan Shearer’s 260. Internationally, Shearer ranks fourth all‑time for England with 409 goals; Steve Bloomer and Dixie Dean follow in third and fifth places, respectively.
Kane’s strengths include penalty taking—about a quarter of his goals come from the spot—and lethal finishing inside the box, where 349 of his goals were scored. His right foot dominates with 318 strikes, while 94 were headers. The goal that gave him the 500‑mark was a rare long‑range effort, one of only 49 he has ever scored from outside the box.
These achievements open up many new record possibilities for Kane as he continues his prolific career.
