In Virginia, a special event is happening to help keep teen drivers safe. The Gweedo Memorial Foundation and LifeSafer ISA are teaming up to show off new technology that could save lives. This event is all about teaching young drivers how to be safer on the road. The event is happening on New Year's Eve day, from 11 a. m. to 3 p. m. at the DoubleTree Hotel in Williamsburg. It's free and open to everyone. You can see real-life demonstrations of how this new tech works. Plus, there's a chance to win a Nintendo Switch! Speeding is a big problem, especially for young drivers. In 2023, over 5, 000 people in the U. S. died in crashes involving teens. In Virginia alone, more than 900 people died in traffic accidents the following year, with 410 of those deaths related to speeding. That's why this event is so important. It's all about showing how new technology can help prevent these tragedies.
After the safety showcase, there's a dance party to ring in the new year. But this party is only for those 21 and over. It's an 80s-themed fundraiser with food, drinks, a silent auction, and live music. All the money raised goes to the foundation's work to keep teen drivers safe. Tickets range from $55. 20 to $402. The Gweedo Memorial Foundation was created in memory of Joseph Conner “Gweedo” Guido, who died in a car crash in 2019. Their mission is to educate young drivers and their parents about the dangers of reckless driving. If you want to learn more about the safety event, you can RSVP online. For tickets to the dance party, you can buy them on Eventbrite. You can also email or call the foundation for more information.
