Learning Made Fun: A Bingo Game for Obstetrics Training

Students in medical school often find their obstetrics rotations confusing, because the work they do can differ a lot from one hospital to another. This makes it hard for them to know what they should learn and how well they are doing. To fix this, a team created an obstetrics bingo board. The board lists key skills and knowledge that students must gain, like performing a vaginal exam or recognizing signs of preeclampsia. Each time a student completes one of these tasks, they mark it off on the board.The idea is to let students drive their own learning. They choose what to tackle next, and the board shows them exactly where they still need practice. This keeps everyone focused on real clinical goals instead of wandering aimlessly. Because the board is simple and visual, it sparks friendly competition. Students can see their progress at a glance, which motivates them to keep learning and to ask for help when needed. The project also helps teachers. Instructors can quickly see which skills are being mastered and where gaps remain, allowing them to adjust teaching plans on the fly. Overall, turning a clerkship into a game makes learning clearer, more engaging, and better aligned with what doctors actually do every day.
