Less Injections, Same Weight‑Loss Success

"It seems you can keep the pounds off while skipping some shots, a new study suggests. Researchers followed 34 people who had already shed weight on GLP‑1 medicines, then let them stretch out their injections. After 36 weeks most stayed lean, with blood pressure and sugar staying lower. Only four people gained weight and they switched back to weekly doses.
The patients tried different schedules: 17 took shots every other week, six every 10‑14 days, and seven stretched beyond two weeks, some up to six. Most kept losing a few pounds or held steady; only five slipped back slightly.
One 65‑year‑old who had lost 20 pounds on weekly Wegovy found that a two‑week gap made no difference, so he kept the slower schedule. He also added regular elliptical workouts and cut out snacks between meals.
The research was small, mainly white and privately insured, so the results may not apply to everyone. It used existing records with no control group, so it isn’t a definitive trial. Still, experts note that patients who are already motivated may tolerate less frequent dosing.
About 12% of those who tried the spacing returned to weekly injections after regaining weight. Still, the study hints that chronic treatment doesn’t always mean a dose every week forever. More personalized plans could work better.
GLP‑1 drugs like Wegovy and Ozempic have changed obesity care, but many fear lifelong weekly shots because of cost and insurance hurdles. This study offers a possible alternative for those who can manage with fewer injections.
