The basketball scene in Green Bay and nearby areas was buzzing with action on Friday, Jan. 16. The boys' teams brought their A-game, with De Pere, Bay Port, and Denmark coming out on top. De Pere's Redbirds had a standout performance, thanks to Noah Maniscalco, Jack Bookter, and Will Krueger, who combined for 33 points in the second half to secure a 68-55 win over Pulaski. Meanwhile, Bay Port's Pirates made a dramatic comeback, overcoming a 13-point deficit to beat Green Bay Preble 71-60. Kamden Finlan was the star, scoring 17 points with five 3-pointers.
The girls' teams also had a fantastic day. Bay Port's Pirates dominated with a 65-34 victory over Green Bay Preble, led by Melia Lemorande's impressive 33 points. Other winners included De Pere, West De Pere, and Sheboygan North, all showcasing their skills and teamwork.
In other sports, Notre Dame's Tritons had a strong performance in boys' hockey, defeating Neenah/Hortonville/Menasha 7-4. The Tritons scored the first two goals and never looked back, with Chuckie Bird and Owen Atkinson each scoring two goals. De Pere's Voyageurs also had a stellar game, shutting out West Bend 8-0 with a dominant first period.
The swimming scene was equally exciting at the Appleton North Lightning Invitational. Green Bay United took the top spot with 375 points, followed by Oregon and Rhinelander. It was a close competition, with Appleton North/East and Appleton West Co-op tying at 257 points.
These games highlighted the talent and determination of local high school athletes, making it a memorable Friday for sports fans.
