Ontario Mills Mall, California, USASun Apr 12 2026
A man from Rancho Cucamonga showed up at Ontario Mills Mall in California on a Friday morning carrying a lighter and a backpack. Witnesses called police after seeing him light fires in multiple stores. Surveillance video later shared online showed flames inside a True Religion store as officers moved in to stop him.
Police arrived around 10:30 a. m. after receiving reports of a suspicious person moving between stores with items that could start fires. The suspect, later identified as Luis Javier Gallegos Jr. , was found inside True Religion and resisted when officers tried to control the situation. Bodycam footage showed officers quickly bringing the incident under control without further spread of the fires.
During the arrest, one officer got hurt but only needed basic medical care at a hospital. The suspect also suffered minor injuries and was taken for treatment before being put in jail. Authorities checked the entire mall with bomb-sniffing dogs to ensure no hidden dangers remained. Firefighters put out the flames quickly, and no customers or employees got hurt.
The mall shut down for the rest of the day while crews cleaned up and checked for damage. Police still don’t know why this happened and haven’t shared any possible motives. Investigators are looking into every detail to understand what led to this chaotic morning.
Malls are usually safe places for shopping and hanging out. When something like this happens, it raises questions about security and how quickly emergencies get handled. Videos like this remind everyone to stay alert and report anything unusual right away.
