Massachusetts is in a tough spot with health insurance. Thousands of people are losing coverage or struggling to find affordable plans. Governor Maura Healey is looking for ways to help them. She mentioned this on GBH News' Boston Public Radio.
The problem started with the end of enhanced premium tax credits. These credits helped people pay for insurance, but they're expiring soon. This means many people will lose their coverage. Healey said about 350, 000 residents could be affected.
The governor is exploring other insurance options for these people. She mentioned there are different programs and plans available. The goal is to make sure everyone has access to healthcare.
But the problem doesn't end there. Massachusetts is expected to lose a lot of money due to federal law changes. This could lead to more people losing insurance in the future. Experts suggest the state needs a plan to handle this.
Healey also talked about the struggles of hospitals. She mentioned the closure of Carney Hospital and the seizure of St. Elizabeth's Medical Center. Nurses at the seized hospital are worried about their jobs and benefits.
The governor said she is focused on protecting the most vulnerable. She will present her budget proposal soon. But for now, many people in Massachusetts are still worried about their healthcare.
