McG, known for reviving Charlie's Angels on the big screen, is now diving into the world of television again. This time, he's taking the reins of the Baywatch reboot, set to hit Fox's lineup in the 2026-27 season. McG won't just be directing the first episode; he's also stepping into the role of executive producer, bringing his creative touch to the project through his company, Wonderland Sound and Vision. This isn't McG's first rodeo with Fox. Back in 2002, he co-created, executive produced, and directed the pilot for Fastlane. He also lent his expertise to other Fox hits like The O. C. and the Lethal Weapon series reboot. Teaming up with Matt Nix, who's at the helm of this Baywatch reboot, isn't new for McG. The two have previously worked together on Turner & Hooch for Disney+ and True Lies for CBS.
The Baywatch reboot promises to bring back the thrilling rescues, dramatic relationships, and beachside action that made the original a hit. But this time around, it's getting a modern twist with a new cast, updated challenges, and a fresh mission to protect Southern California's coastlines. Shooting is set to kick off in March on Venice Beach and the Fox Studio Lot in Century City, thanks to a $21. 1 million California tax credit. Behind the scenes, the reboot is a team effort. Fremantle and Fox Entertainment are producing the series, with Nix, McG, and a handful of other executives calling the shots. Fox Entertainment Global is handling domestic distribution, while Fremantle is managing international sales. McG's plate is full with other projects too. His company is producing Clashing Through The Snow for Amazon MGM Studios, starring Christopher Briney and Michelle Randolph, set to start production in February. They've also wrapped up the McG-directed Chris Pratt film Way Of The Warrior Kid for Skydance/Apple, as well as Season 2 of Average Joe for Paramount+. On top of all that, McG recently acquired the historic Henson Studios lot in Hollywood, now known as Chaplin Studios, alongside John Mayer.
