Medical students are under a lot of pressure. It's no surprise that many of them struggle with focus and mental health. A recent study looked into how common ADHD symptoms are among these students and what affects their attention spans. The study involved 231 medical students. Most of them were young, around 22 years old, and 72% were female. The results showed that 45% of the students had symptoms that suggested ADHD. Interestingly, age and gender didn't seem to make a big difference in these results. But here's something interesting: students in their third year were more likely to show ADHD symptoms than those in their first year. This could be because the workload increases as they progress through their studies. The study also found that many students had poor sleep, anxiety, and depression. These issues were linked to ADHD symptoms. It seems like mental health struggles go hand in hand for these students. So, what affects their attention span the most? Tiredness, academic load, sleep quality, interest in the subject, and the time of day were the top factors. Students with ADHD symptoms also reported different lifestyle habits, like exercising more, using more social media, drinking more caffeine, skipping breakfast, and drinking more fluids. This study shows that medical students face a lot of mental health challenges. It's important for schools to review their curricula and provide better support services to help these students succeed.
