The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Southeast Michigan, starting tonight and lasting until Tuesday morning. This means people should be ready for cold temperatures, strong winds, and snow.
Tonight, the snow will start falling and could pile up to 3 inches by morning. It will be very cold, with temperatures around 15 degrees. But with the wind, it will feel more like 0 to 5 degrees.
On Monday, which is MLK Jr Day, the weather will stay cloudy with more snow showers. There could be sudden bursts of heavy snow, called snow squalls. These can make driving tricky, so plan for extra time if you need to go somewhere. Temperatures will start around 19 degrees but drop to the mid-teens by afternoon. The wind will be strong, with gusts up to 45 mph, making it feel like 0 degrees or even colder.
Monday night, the snow will slow down, but it will still be very cold. Temperatures will drop to 4 degrees, and with the wind, it will feel like -5 to -15 degrees. The wind will calm down a bit, but it will still be strong enough to make it feel colder.
Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with a chance of a few light snow showers. Temperatures will stay in the teens, but with the wind, it will feel even colder.
Wednesday, the weather will start to warm up a bit, with temperatures reaching 32 degrees. But there is another chance of snow.
This weather is not just about being uncomfortable. It can be dangerous. Strong winds can make it hard to see and walk. Cold temperatures can cause frostbite. So, it's important to dress warmly, stay inside if possible, and be careful if you need to go out.
