Michigan is dealing with a lot of snow and wind. The weather service has issued a warning for most of the Lower Peninsula. This warning is in effect until Wednesday afternoon, December 10. They expect 1-4 inches of snow by Thursday morning, December 12, with wind gusts up to 35 mph. The warning was expanded to include the M-59 corridor as of 10 a. m. on December 10. The weather service in Detroit said a cold front would move through southeastern Michigan, causing temperatures to drop quickly below freezing. This means untreated surfaces will freeze rapidly after 2-5 inches of snow fell overnight. In the snowbelt areas, which include the central Upper Peninsula and the northwest part of the Lower Peninsula, 1-6 inches of snow is expected by Thursday morning, December 11. The weather service in Gaylord reported that snow is still falling and another 1-2 inches is expected by early afternoon on December 10. This will make roads slippery and reduce visibility for the morning commute on December 11. The weather outlook is not good for the weekend. Hazardous weather is expected to continue, and gale warnings are in effect for northern Lake Michigan, northern Lake Huron (including Saginaw Bay), and Lake Superior. Winds of 36-46 mph are expected to create waves up to 19 feet high on Lake Huron. Michigan is no stranger to harsh winters. The state's geography and location make it prone to heavy snowfall and strong winds. This can cause travel disruptions and hazardous conditions. It's important for residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions during these weather events.
