Ever heard of Minnesota Roller Derby (MNRD)? Well, they've been rocking the flat track for 20 whole years! This skater-run, volunteer-driven league started back in 2004 and has been going strong ever since. They kicked off their first bout at Roy Wilkins Auditorium in 2005 and have been lovin' it ever since. Val Kyrie, their PR manager and a skater herself, can't believe they've hit this milestone. She says being skater-owned and run makes it even more special. And the venue? They think Roy Wilkins is the best in the country for their sport. With awesome lights, music, and a halftime dance party, it's no wonder fans keep coming back.
MNRD loves what they do, and they know they couldn't do it without their fans. They've even started programs to bring new skaters into the fun, like Windchill and the junior roller derby team, Minnesota Frostbite. With four teams - Bodies of Water, Maul Rats, Roller Vortex, and Wednesday Warnings - there's always something exciting going on. They have bouts from October through March and a travel season from April to July. So, really, there's no offseason! Their next bout is on February 8th. Don't miss it!
