This: Frank from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Mr. Johnson from Abbott Elementary go way back, sharing a high school romance with the same woman. Sounds like a hilarious plot twist, right? Well, it almost happened! Unfortunately, this storyline got cut from the recent crossover episode. Producers Patrick Schumacker and Justin Halpern revealed that they had planned for Frank and Mr. Johnson to have this history, but they ran out of time to fit it into the episode.
This news is a bit disappointing, especially since Danny DeVito and William Stanford Davis could have had more screen time together. Their characters, Frank and Mr. Johnson, have a unique dynamic that could have been explored further. Fans of both shows had high hopes for this crossover, and the cut scene was one of the most anticipated moments.
The idea of Frank and Mr. Johnson having a shared past adds a new layer to their characters. It could have been a fun nod to both shows’ histories. In It’s Always Sunny, Frank’s love for Shadynasty is a recurring theme, so having Mr. Johnson connected to that storyline could have been a clever way to integrate the two worlds.
Despite the disappointment, the crossover episode is still a lot of fun. It’s always exciting to see different TV universes collide. Who knows, maybe in the future, we’ll get to see more of this story play out. For now, we can enjoy the episode on Hulu and look forward to the next season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
