Bruce Blakeman, the Nassau County Executive, is in for a tough fight against Governor Kathy Hochul. Hochul has a massive financial advantage, with a staggering $32 million in her campaign war chest. This money comes from powerful unions, wealthy corporations, and millionaire donors. Blakeman, on the other hand, has raised just under $1. 5 million. A significant portion of this came from his own campaign funds and the Nassau County GOP. The state Republican Committee has $465, 000 on hand, which is a drop in the bucket compared to Hochul's resources. Hochul's fundraising skills are a major asset. She raised $4. 5 million in 2025 alone, bringing her total to $20 million. This includes funds raised over the last four years. Additionally, the New York State Democratic Committee has $12 million, with $6. 5 million donated in 2025. Powerful unions like the Hotel Trades Council and New York State United Teachers maxed out their contributions at $139, 000 each.
Wealthy individuals also contributed significantly. Media mogul Fred Eychaner, real estate boss Scott Rechler, shopping mall heiress Deborah Simon, Hess oil tycoon John Hess, and Suffolk Construction CEO John Fish all donated over $100, 000 each. Blakeman's campaign also received donations from well-to-do donors, including the New York law firm Abrams Fensterman, real estate developer Broad Metro, and controversial Buffalo developer Carl Paladino. These donations ranged from $5, 000 to $10, 000. The race is not just about money, though. Blakeman's campaign spokesperson, Madison Spanodemos, criticized Hochul's record, citing tax hikes, skyrocketing utility bills, higher commuter fares, and pro-criminal policies. Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado is also in the mix, challenging Hochul for the Democratic nomination. He raised $1. 2 million, enough to qualify for campaign matching funds. This makes the race even more interesting, as Delgado is seen as an insurgent candidate.
