Xreal has just launched the Xreal 1S, a new pair of AR glasses designed to make work and entertainment more immersive. These glasses are part of the Xreal One Series, which already includes the One and One Pro models. The 1S is seen as a big step up from the original Xreal One, which came out last December.
The 1S glasses offer a cinema-like experience, projecting a huge 171-inch screen. They have a higher resolution than before, going from 1080p to 1200p FullHD, and they are brighter with 700 nits. The field of view is also wider at 52 degrees. These glasses can adjust their display settings automatically when moving from outside to inside, thanks to electrochromic dimming. They also feature Bose sound technology, so users don't need earbuds or headphones.
Despite being lightweight at 82 grams, the 1S is heavier than the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, which weigh between 49 and 51 grams. However, the 1S offers more features for productivity and entertainment. Unlike the Ray-Ban glasses, which only project onto one lens, the 1S provides a 3D augmented reality display. Regular sunglasses usually weigh around 45 grams, so the 1S might feel a bit heavier on the face.
Users can place floating screens in their vision that stay in place or create a large cinema screen that stays in front of them. For productivity, the “side view” feature allows users to pin a smaller screen to a corner of their vision, making it easier to multitask. The Xreal 1S is now available for $449, which is a lower price than its predecessor, the Xreal One, which was $499.
In addition to the 1S, Xreal has launched a new power hub called the Neo. This hub extends the battery life of the glasses and serves as a DisplayPort video hub with a 10, 000 mAh power bank. It supports 30-watt input and 20-watt output on battery, and up to 45-watt output when connected to a wall charger. The Neo also improves video performance and allows users to connect to the Nintendo Switch without needing the dock. Xreal 1S users can experience the Nintendo Switch’s onboard screen at 1080p resolutions, and Valve Corp. SteamDeck owners can get up to 1200p resolution.
