New buildings and changes coming to Central Massachusetts
Westborough, Leicester, Marlborough, Worcester, USAMon Apr 20 2026
A big car dealership is on the way in Westborough. Workers are building a huge metal structure on Route 9 that looks like a parking garage. This isn’t just for cars—the upper floors will hold shiny new cars ready for sale. The spot used to have small offices, but they were torn down to make room. The dealership should open later this year, adding to the busy highway scene.
Another big project is happening in Leicester. A golf course that shut down last year might become a neighborhood. Plans show nearly 300 homes—apartments and townhouses—plus parking spaces. The old club sold for over $4 million before closing. Developers want to build four apartment buildings and many duplexes on the 200-acre land near Walmart. This could change how the area looks for years.
Marlborough is getting a major upgrade too. A new state crime lab is almost done, but that’s just the start. A company wants to build 400 homes and stores nearby. The plan includes tall apartment buildings, smaller townhouses, and a giant parking garage. If approved, this could turn a quiet business park into a lively place to live and work.
A spot in Worcester’s Canal District might not stay empty much longer. A bar called The Sundown closed after only a year, leaving a storefront dark. Now, a new sign hints at another bar or restaurant coming soon. The building has been quiet for about a year, but change could be on the way.
The old Denholm & McKay department store in Worcester isn’t standing much longer. The city and a developer agreed to tear it down by 2027. After that, two new apartment buildings will go up. One will be tall, and the other shorter, adding 190 homes to the area. This could help fix a long-empty spot in the city.
