New Dean Leads Arkansas State Nursing College

Arkansas, Russellville, USASat May 09 2026
Arkansas State University has officially named Stacy Walz the dean of its College of Nursing and Health Professions, ending her interim status that began in 2025. Walz, who has a long history with the college as associate dean and chair of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, will take over full responsibilities on July 1. She earned all three of her degrees—bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate—from the University of Wisconsin‑Madison, where she also taught before joining A‑State in 2011. During her time as interim dean, Walz was praised for strong leadership and clear progress. The provost said she has proven herself as a catalyst for change, earning the chance to lead the college permanently. She plans to keep pushing forward with a comprehensive strategic plan that benefits students, faculty, staff and the wider state.
One of Walz’s key projects is the new Healthcare Simulation Building. The $9 million federal grant will help address shortages in maternal and infant health workers and reduce regional health gaps. She also aims to keep the college aligned with campus initiatives, support faculty research and teaching, and maintain open communication with students. Walz emphasized that the college will feel a noticeable shift in leadership style and support, especially regarding scholarship opportunities. She intends to work closely with university leaders to turn state and campus goals into action, while strengthening existing partnerships with clinical and community organizations.
