In a bid to revamp its iconic program, Bloomberg is shifting the focus of "Wall Street Week" from interview-driven discussions to enterprise storytelling. The show, which has been around since 1970, will now feature a series of investigative reports drawn from the journalism of Bloomberg. This change is aimed at making the show more engaging and relevant to younger audiences who consume content in a streaming format.
The revamped show, which premieres on September 20, will have a more traditional newsmagazine approach, presenting in-depth stories on various business and economic topics. Host David Westin, a former president of ABC News, has described the new format as a "60 Minutes" for business and economics - a unique concept that has never been attempted before.
The decision to revamp the show is largely driven by the need for broadcasters to adapt to the changing media landscape. With the rise of streaming, content must be designed to be consumed on-demand and have lasting appeal. In addition, the show's focus on financial news and statistical analysis may no longer be enough to capture the attention of its target audience.
To achieve this, Bloomberg is expanding the show's distribution channels. It will air on Fridays at 6 p. m. eastern on Bloomberg TV and on Sundays at 2 p. m. eastern on 195 PBS stations with WORLD digital channels, representing 77% of U. S. TV households.
