New Ideas in Breast Cancer Care

Vienna, AustriaWed Mar 25 2026
In mid‑March 2025, a big meeting on breast cancer was held in Vienna. Over three thousand people from around the world came to hear experts speak and share their research. The event was a mix of lectures, poster shows, lively debates, and a special panel that many call the “Consensus Session. ” These parts together made the conference stand out. At the opening, a new tribute was added. It remembers Hansjoerg Senn, a Swiss doctor who helped many breast‑cancer patients before he died in 2023. The tribute is called the Hansjoerg Senn Memorial Lecture and it honors those who push research forward.
Each year the lecturer receives a big award and then talks at the start of the conference. This time, the honor went to Professor Armando E. Giuliano. Prof. Giuliano talked about his own journey in surgery, especially how he helped change the way doctors treat breast cancer. He spoke about the sentinel lymph node test and a study called Z0011, both of which made surgery safer for patients. He urged everyone to keep changing. He said that change is hard but it must happen, and that anyone can be a part of the progress no matter how old or young. Overall, the conference showed that new ideas and teamwork can make a real difference in patient care.
