New Jersey Gets a Light Winter Surprise

New Jersey woke up to a light dusting of snow on Tuesday. The early snowfall was brought in by a quick-moving weather system. Northern parts of the state, like Sussex and Bergen counties, saw the most snow, with around 2 to 3 inches. Other areas had just a thin layer of snow covering the ground. The weather folks warned that ice could mix with the snow, making roads slippery. They issued winter weather advisories for several counties, including Bergen, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, and Warren. These advisories were in effect until 4 p. m. Because of the slippery roads, some schools decided to cancel classes or start later than usual. This was to keep kids safe as they traveled to school.The National Weather Service and a group of volunteers called CoCoRaHS reported the snowfall totals. They shared updates throughout the day as new reports came in. The highest snowfall was in Franklin Lakes, with 3. 6 inches. Other places had much less, with some areas only seeing a trace of snow. The snowfall varied a lot across the state. For example, in Bergen County, Franklin Lakes had 3. 6 inches, while Oakland had just 1 inch. In Morris County, Harding Township saw 1. 9 inches, but Madison only had 0. 1 inches. This shows how the snowfall was not even across the state. The snow was expected to stop by the afternoon. But before it did, some areas might get up to 3 or 4 more inches, especially in the northwest part of the state.
