New Jersey is about to experience a weather rollercoaster. A storm is expected to hit the area this weekend, bringing a mix of snow and strong winds. However, the exact impact is still uncertain. Forecasters are monitoring the storm's path closely. It could either stay out at sea, causing minimal disruption, or move closer to the coast, leading to significant snowfall. Currently, coastal areas have a high chance of receiving more than 4 inches of snow, while inland areas are less likely to see such accumulations. Wind is another major concern. Even if the storm stays offshore, strong winds could still create problems along the coast. If the storm does affect New Jersey, temperatures will be cold enough for snow. Additionally, the chill will persist through next week, so residents should be prepared for prolonged cold weather. Before the weekend arrives, New Jersey is facing dangerously cold temperatures. Wind chills could drop below zero, increasing the risk of frostbite and hypothermia. A cold weather advisory is in effect for most of the state until Wednesday morning, with another round of severe cold expected from Wednesday night through Friday night.
Tonight into Wednesday morning, wind chills will range from zero to minus 10 degrees across most of New Jersey. After morning lows in the single digits today, high temperatures will only reach the teens in northwestern areas and low to mid-20s across the rest of the state. Another wave of Arctic air is expected to arrive this evening as a cold front sweeps through the region, though no precipitation is expected. The most dangerous cold will occur from Wednesday through Friday, with daytime highs in the mid to upper teens in northern counties and near 20 degrees in South Jersey. Overnight lows during this period will drop to low single digits or below zero across the entire state. Wind chills will plunge well below zero, reaching as low as minus 20 degrees near and northwest of the I-95 corridor. The weather service warns that this "bone-chilling cold" could impact energy infrastructure due to increased heating demands. Low temperature records could be broken later this week. Looking ahead, the extended forecast shows that very cold conditions will persist through at least the beginning of next week.
