New Jersey's Weather Rollercoaster: Cold Snaps and Rainy Days Ahead

New Jersey is in for a wild weather ride this week. The state is currently gripped by an Arctic chill, with temperatures dropping into the teens and even single digits in some spots. This deep freeze is expected to stick around until Tuesday night, making it feel like the middle of winter, even though it's just mid-December.
The good news is that the cold won't last forever. Starting Wednesday, a warm front will push through, bringing temperatures back to more normal levels in the low to mid-40s. However, this warm-up will be short-lived, as a cold front is set to move in later that evening.
Thursday looks promising with high pressure and pleasant conditions, but things take a turn late Thursday night. A low-pressure system moving through the Great Lakes will drag a strong cold front into the region, bringing rain that could last through Friday afternoon. The National Weather Service predicts a good chance of moderate to heavy rainfall, which could wash away most of the remaining snowpack.
After the rain, the Arctic high pressure is expected to return for the weekend. Saturday will be noticeably colder than Friday, with highs only in the upper 30s to low 40s. There's even a chance of icy spots on Saturday morning due to refreezing moisture. Sunday should bring a slight warm-up, with highs in the mid- to upper 40s before another weak front passes through Sunday night.
The overall weather pattern suggests that any additional Arctic air intrusions will be brief and not as prolonged as the current cold snap. So, while it's chilly now, there's hope for milder weather in the near future.
