New Leader at Webtoon: Yongsoo Kim Takes the Helm
Los Angeles, USAThu Mar 05 2026
Webtoon Entertainment, a top webcomic platform, has chosen Yongsoo Kim as its new president. Kim, who started at the company in 2022, will now head senior leadership and report to founder CEO Junkoo Kim.
The move aims to speed up projects and spark fresh ideas across Webtoon’s worldwide operations. While Junkoo focuses on long‑term plans, Kim will drive day‑to‑day growth and innovation.
Kim’s track record includes helping Webtoon go public on Nasdaq in 2024, securing a partnership with Disney that brought 100 new titles to the app, and arranging a co‑production deal with Warner Bros. Animation for ten series. He also launched video episodes, broadened creator support, and boosted user engagement metrics.
Under his guidance, Webtoon’s U. S. arm grew through new initiatives and tighter integration with its production studio, formerly known as Wattpad Webtoon Studios. The company sees Kim’s promotion as a signal of its commitment to disciplined execution while still pushing creative boundaries.
Before Webtoon, Kim worked at KKR as a principal, helped launch Tesla’s Korean operations, and held roles at McKinsey, Netmarble, and Y Combinator‑backed Mars Auto. He also sits on boards of several tech firms and earned his business degree from Yonsei University in 2012.
Webtoon boasts about 160 million monthly users worldwide and offers content on major streaming services like Netflix, Prime Video, and Crunchyroll. In 2025, the company earned $1. 38 billion, a modest rise from previous years, though it recorded a net loss driven by goodwill write‑downs.
