New Mexican Food Spot Set to Open in Medford
Wellington, MedfordSat Apr 11 2026
A new Mexican grill will soon open its second branch on 495 Riverside Ave. in Medford’s Wellington area, taking over a former Smashburger site that shut down last January after more than ten years. The owners, led by Marycela Rodenzo, have secured a Common Victualler License from the city council, which allows them to sell food. They also received approval for extended hours, letting the restaurant stay open until midnight every night.
The business plans to serve busy workers and late‑night diners, noting that the surrounding streets stay lively well into the evening. They point out that many nearby eateries keep their doors open late to meet this demand. This strategy aligns with the owner’s experience from their first location on 323 Main St. in Saugus, which opened earlier this year.
Council Member Matt Leming expressed enthusiasm about the new spot. He mentioned that his parents had wanted to try it during a past visit, and he hopes to enjoy the menu himself in the future. He also highlighted interest in the vegetarian options the grill plans to offer.
While the exact opening day hasn’t been announced, residents can expect a fresh Mexican dining choice that caters to both daytime and nighttime crowds.
