New Owner for Caesars New Orleans: What It Means
Louisiana, USA, New Orleans,Sat May 30 2026
The big news is that the Texas billionaire Tillman Fertitta is buying Caesars Entertainment for about $6 billion. This move could shake up the whole U. S. gaming scene, but for the Caesars casino on Canal Street in New Orleans, the everyday experience is likely to stay the same. The brand name will probably not change and most staff will keep their jobs.
Fertitta already owns a lot of entertainment, food, and gaming properties in Louisiana. He runs the Golden Nugget Casino in Lake Charles and dozens of restaurants, including Landry’s Seafood and Saltgrass Steakhouse. After the purchase he will also control other famous casino brands such as Harrah’s, Horseshoe, and Flamingo, plus Caesars’ online gaming site and rewards program.
Industry insiders say Fertitta’s track record in entertainment could bring fresh ideas to the New Orleans market. Gaming lobbyist Alton Ashy praised his reputation for quality, while casino expert Dan Michalski pointed out that Fertitta knows how to mix dining, celebrity chefs, sports betting, and live entertainment—elements that are shaping the future of casino experiences.
The Caesars New Orleans property itself was only reopened about 18 months ago after a $435 million makeover that added high‑end restaurants like Nobu and Emeril’s, as well as a new luxury hotel. The casino also holds a 20‑year naming rights deal with the Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District, keeping its logo on the Superdome until 2041 regardless of ownership.
Fertitta’s company is privately held and very different from Caesars’ previous public owners. He has a history of big moves in Louisiana, such as buying the food‑delivery app Waitr and expressing interest in purchasing the New Orleans Saints football team, though that deal never materialized.
The sale still needs approval from shareholders and regulators, so it could take several months before the transition is complete. Until then, guests can expect the same familiar layout and service at Caesars New Orleans.
